The Heart of Design: Passion, Luxury, and Breaking the Norm

What’s one piece of advice you give all your clients? We’ve all been at that crossroads, standing in a store or browsing online, wondering if we should purchase an item simply because it’s trending or looks impressive. However, the one universal piece of advice I always share with my clients is this: “Surround yourself with what YOU Love!” If it doesn’t resonate with your heart, if you’re not passionate about it, what’s the purpose of having it?

A Glimpse into the Pinnacle of Luxury

What’s the most over-the-top, luxury space you’ve ever seen?  The most over-the-top luxury space I’ve ever witnessed is Casa Casuarina, Gianni Versace’s mansion in Miami Beach. Built in 1930, this majestic residence oozes opulence from every corner. It’s reported that after purchasing it in 1992, Versace poured a staggering $30 million into renovations and enhancements. Every room you step into is a testament to the brilliant craftsmanship, showcasing painted frescoes and mosaics installed by Italian artisans. The pièce de résistance? The pool, embellished with 24-karat gold. It’s not every day one gets to peek into the grandiose world of such a legendary fashion icon. And while it’s now privately owned, you can still experience a bit of this luxury by staying in one of its guest bedrooms or dining at its restaurant.

Design Evolution: From Cookie-Cutter to Personal Touch

What design trend are you’re glad that’s gone by the wayside? Over the years, I’ve noticed some design trends come and go. There was a time when homes in Florida had a certain “look” everyone seemed to adhere to. I am genuinely pleased to see that particular trend fade away. People are now breaking the mold, avoiding the monotonous “Me, too” designs, and crafting unique styles that truly represent who they are.

Current Loves in Design

What’s your favorite design trend right now? The trend I’m currently enamored with is saying goodbye to the Formal Living Room! While once deemed essential, many now find it a bit too rigid and detached. The current trend leans more towards functionality and intimacy. Entertainment spaces have evolved from being formal to cozy. From Game Rooms to Libraries to even Wine Tasting Rooms, people are designing their homes based on what they love and how they live.

Celebrity Design Dreams

If you could have a celebrity designer come decorate your home, who would it be? If I were given the opportunity to have a celebrity designer decorate my space, it would be a mix of cutting-edge and avant-garde. Zaha Hadid Architects, known for their contemporary and groundbreaking designs, would be my choice for the overall structure and feel. And to sprinkle in some daring, innovative interior ideas, Marcel Wanders would be the perfect match. Imagine a home that’s both futuristic yet whimsical!

In essence, the design trends in the world are vast and ever-changing. But at its core, it’s about expressing who you are and creating spaces that bring joy. After all, it’s not just about following trends, but about surrounding yourself with what you truly love.
